Judge Jill Karofsky Stages Upset Amid Biden’s Win In Wisconsin

With Joe Biden’s widely expected win in the Wisconsin Democratic presidential primary, a liberal challenger for a state supreme court seat declared victory. The state supreme court may rule to rule in numerous voting rights cases in the lead-up to the presidential election. It includes a case in which 200,000 voters might be purged from voter polls. Wisconsin is considered a swing state that marginally voted for Donald Trump in 2016.

In a victory statement by Judge Jill Karofsky, he thanked his supporters and attacked the Republican-led legislature for pushing voters to the polls a week earlier amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Tony Evers, the state’s Democratic governor, had attempted to postpone the election, but he was stopped to do so by the Republican-led legislature and the conservative-managed state supreme court.

Biden, the leading Democratic presidential candidate, had held a substantial lead in polls before the vote was conducted. His main rival, Bernie Sanders, pulled out of the presidential nominating race just the day following the vote. Sanders endorsed Biden’s candidacy on Monday in a video chat.

On Monday, the results from Wisconsin were drawn from election day the previous Tuesday, which was full of voters forced to go to the polls in person as Coronavirus devastated the country.

In fact, fears linked to Coronavirus led to an unprecedented number of requests for absentee ballots in the state, numbering more than 1 million. However, many voters reported that they had not received ballots by election day.

Due to a lack of poll workers amid the pandemic, the election was conducted with just five Milwaukee polling sites. A typical statewide election would be conducted with about 180 sites for the city.
