Trump Looks Ready To Shift His Focus From Coronavirus To Economic Recovery

President Trump is definitely abandoning a public health strategy for the coronavirus crisis and displaying “clear willingness to trade lives for the Dow Jones,” say critics.

A leaked internal White House projects the daily death toll from the virus can reach about 3,000 by 1 June, almost double the current tally of about 1,750.

Before boarding Air Force One on Tuesday morning to fly to a medical mask-making facility in Arizona, Trump measured a predicted surge in deaths against the economic revival.

Trump said, “There is no greater win, one way or the other, but I can tell you where there is a win, we are going to rebuild a country. I did it once, two months back we had the best economy in the world, but we are going to do that again, and that’s what we’re starting. It’s going to happen pretty quickly.”

Anthony Fauci, the top US public health expert on the White House coronavirus task force, warned in a CNN interview last evening that there will be a “rebound” of new coronavirus cases in the country if the administration rushes towards a “premature” reopening of society and business.

Critics have sharply questioned the Trump administration’s approach to what Fauci called “a very difficult choice” that compares the death toll against economic catastrophe.

Cuomo said at his daily briefing, “The faster we reopen, the lower the economic costs, and the higher the human costs because the more lives lost. That, my friends, is the decision we are making.”
