Trump Looks Determined To ‘Terminate Obamacare’

As the coronavirus death toll crossed 73,000 in the United States, President Trump vowed to end the Affordable Care Act. However, a few members of his administration are of the opinion that parts of the national health-care policy should stay in place during the crisis.

“We want to terminate health care under Obamacare,” Trump said in an interview at the White House.

As various states slowly start to reopen, the number of people losing their jobs is rising. Over 30 million people have already filed for unemployment benefits since the economy was shut down. In fact analysts expect another 3 million jobless claims to be filed extending the pandemic’s grip on the workforce.

Here are some important developments:

  • Trump changed course on Wednesday and said the administration’s coronavirus task force would continue its work “indefinitely.” Just a day earlier, Vice President Pence said the task force could be disbanded by the end of May.
  • U.S.-China tensions continue to escalate. Beijing even accused Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of spreading false information about the origins of the coronavirus. Pompeo claimed China covered up the pandemic instead of saving the world from “a descent into global economic malaise.”
  • Most of the new coronavirus cases in New York hospitals came from people sheltering at home. Andrew Cuomo called this ‘shocking.’
  • Two Utah businesses pressurized employees who tested corona positive to report to work, resulting in 68 new cases, according to local officials.
  • Three Russian doctors have already fallen from windows in two weeks as the country’s health-care system is strained by a surge in infections.
  • Black counties disproportionately account for almost 50% of U.S. coronavirus cases, according to recent statistics. Meanwhile, Hispanics are twice as likely as whites to have lost their jobs during the pandemic.
