A senator and former law professor who’s set to redefine the rules of the economy.

Elizabeth Warren is a senior senator from Massachusetts and a former Harvard Law School professor. She gained nationwide popularity as the architect of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in the administration of President Barack Obama. She was elected to the Senate in 2012 after she oversaw the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) amidst the financial crisis.

Warren’s signature issues

Senator Elizabeth Warren aims to shift the power dynamic away from the corporations and the wealthy and wishes to empower the working people.

She aspires to step up the challenge of redesigning the economic structure with new policies which include –

Creating a wealth tax
Canceling student loan debt
Reorganizing technology companies

She has always maintained distance from wealthy donors and stays grounded among her fans from the working class. Her town halls are swarmed with voters waiting in a “selfie line” to capture a memory with her, and she spends hours making sure, everyone gets a chance.

Issues That Matter

Economy

Warren calls her approach towards Economic policy, “Economic Patriotism,” she criticizes large US corporations that have shifted jobs overseas and seeks to protect American industry workers from the adverse effects of unfair foreign trade and investment practices. She also wants to focus on fighting big businesses, reducing inequality, and reducing inequality, and reducing corruption in the finance industry.

“The wealth tax” is the flagship proposal of the warren campaign. It would apply to all Americans with more than $50 million in total wealth.
She wants to implement a $ 2 trillion investment in green research $ manufacturing to create more than a million jobs.
She promises to reverse most Trump-era rollback of regulations on big banks, etc.
She wants to establish a new government agency, the department of economic development that will replace the commerce department, office of US trade representatives, etc.
She proposes breaking up “monopolistic firms” like Amazon or Facebook. She seeks to appoint regulators to undo large mergers.
She promises to expand apprenticeship programs & worker training, canceling most student loan debt, raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour, and making college tuition-free.

Health Care

Elizabeth Warren believes that Health care is a fundamental human right.

From her experience, she has concluded that families suffer from a financial crisis due to insurance policy failures followed by untreated or unsuccessful health conditions.

Her plans to solve U S health care issues include:

She supports Medicare for All, which would provide all citizens with a public health care program. Medicare for All is the best way to give every single person in this country a guarantee of high-quality health care.
According to Warren’s campaign, the plan would not raise middle-class taxes. Also, she claims that the health plan would cost the country just under $52 trillion over a decade.
Affordable Prescription Drugs- Warren has introduced the Affordable Drug Manufacturing Act, which would allow the Health and Human Services department to overtake the responsibilities of markets for the betterment of the society.
Sen. Warren keeps the mental health care in priority, intending to keep the services affordable and accessible for Americans. She sponsors the Behavioral Health Coverage Transparency Act.
Medicare For All aims to make primary health care accessible on compensated costs for poor and rural communities.

Cybersecurity

As the elections are arriving closer, some democratic candidates keeping an eye on cybersecurity. Sen. Warren is one such candidate who is running for the U. S Elections 2020 as well as maintaining a keen eye on cybersecurity. She has outlined strict plans that would only result in saving democracy and lesser cyber crimes.

Sen. Warren says, “Our democracy is too important for it to be under-resourced and insecure.” Warren claims to invest $20 billion to an election security plan that would provide the federal government, rather than states, authorization over election standards. She insists on using hand-marked paper ballots and obligatory election audits.
Talking about the big social media giants, Sen. Warren suggests a clear break up of Amazon, Facebook, Google, and other giants who have established a monopoly in the industry and hold a vast citizen database.
She suggests two rounds to split current tech giants: first, dividing the platforms from the users who use those platforms and, second, designating regulators who would invalidate large amalgamations.

Criminal Justice

Tweeting about the surveyed data, Elizabeth Warren said, “The U.S. makes up 5% of the world’s population, but nearly 20% of the world’s prison population. And the evidence is clear that there are structural race problems in our criminal justice system. At every level, the system disadvantages or discriminates against people of color.”

Sen. Warren has released several policies to reform the criminal justice practices carried on currently in the United States.

“Real reform requires examining every step of this system: From what we choose to criminalize, to how law enforcement and prosecutors engage with communities and the accused, to how long we keep people behind bars, how we treat them when they’re there, and how we reintegrate them when they return,” said Elizabeth in her medium blog.
Concerning a child’s development, Warren drew the attention on poverty, poor environment at home, and incarcerated caretakers and the rest of the negative elements that influence the childhood experiences and leaves a wrong impact on a child’s development.
For a solution, she proposes that she will equip schools with resources to meet their students’ requirements by giving access to health care to help & promote the physical, mental, and social development of children, improve their overall school readiness and implementing early intervention services.
Bringing the limelight on the police department’s fund receiving activities, she insisted on reforming the current practices carried on by the officials.
Concentrating more on public safety, she mentioned that it should mean violence mediation programs that divert young people from criminal activity before the police become involved.

Education

Warren wants to ensure high-quality public education for every child in America. The amount of debt that college graduates face has been an important cause for Warren. She has introduced legislation to reduce the interest rates on student loans.

She has expressed a dislike of social vouchers and has expressed strong reservations about charter schools.
In 2019 she unveiled the “Universal Child Care & Early Learning Act” it will build on the “Head Start Program” and would establish a network of daycare and pre-school available to all pre-school age children.
Warren has been a prominent critic of the US Department of Education and the US Secretary of Education, Betsy Devos, for “failing to provide adequate measures to protect students.”

Immigration

Warren hopes to expand legal immigration, provide a pathway to citizenship for unauthorized immigrants, and welcome more refugees, streamline the green card process, etc.

She has pledged to reverse the travel ban on individuals from several Muslim-majority countries and increase the number of refugees admitted into the country.
She supports the DACA program and would expand it to include more recent arrivals.
She seeks to end programs like “Secure Communities” that force local police officers to enforce immigration laws.
She wants to ban “for-profit” detention centers and end Federal Immigration agency contracts with private prisons.
She wants to make undocumented entry into the country a civil offense, not a criminal one.

Military

Warren disapproves of the transactional relationships between defense contractors and public officials. She has pledged to end “Forever Wars.” She seeks to introduce legislation that would ban Defence contractors from hiring former Department of Defence officials for four years after they leave.

She has repeatedly mentioned the development of the F-35 fighter jet as a symbol of a defective defense procurement system that prioritizes special interests over national security.
Warren has promised to reduce “wasteful” & “unsustainable” defense spending. She has stated multiple times that Washington is spending too much on outdated defense technologies and wants to restructure the $700 billion Pentagon budget.
She has expressed that she is against the use of military force to protect global oil supplies, carry out regime change missions. She also opposes the pre-emptive use force against adversaries and nuclear powers.
She wants to “re-examine” US troop deployments around the world and promises to end discriminatory recruitment practices and aims to reduce the suicide rate among veterans.

Gun Control

Warren says that her goal as President will be to reduce the number of gun violence deaths in our country by 80% She has promised the standard solutions to gun violence like almost all her fellow candidates, like closing the boyfriend loophole and restricting gun access of repeat offenders. she also-

Promises to immediately take executive action to rein in an out-of-control gun industry and hold both gun dealers and manufacturers accountable for the violence.
She hopes to reduce NRA’s influence on Congress by passing sweeping anti-corruption legislation.

She pledges to send comprehensive gun violence prevention legislation to Congress and sign it into law within her first 100 days.
She also plans to revisit this comprehensive legislation every single year and modify it to continually reduce the number of gun deaths in America.
She has also pledged to go after the interstate and transnational gun trafficking trade with all the resources of the federal government.

Foreign Policy

Warren firmly believes that we need to be honest about the hard work that is needed to restore our democracy here at home and to align our foreign policy abroad to regain the trust of the American people. It’s time for a foreign policy that works for all Americans, not just wealthy elites. And for that purpose-

She thinks that foreign policy should not be run exclusively by the Pentagon. Her administration will focus on reinvesting in diplomacy and recommitting to multilateralism.
She has pledged to end the practice of nominating campaign donors for ambassadorial jobs and has tried to get the other candidates to sign on to her pledge.
She plans on increasing the aid to Central America to $1.5 billion per year for the purposes of fighting crime, human trafficking, and sexual violence, to address the root causes of the recent spike in migration.
