About this system
Bangladesh's published Constitution separates direct election of 300 constituency members from the 50 reserved seats elected within Parliament. Parliament elects the President; the President appoints as Prime Minister the member who appears to command a parliamentary majority; the Prime Minister heads a Cabinet collectively responsible to Parliament; the Election Commission administers elections; and the Supreme Court enforces fundamental rights and exercises judicial review. This is a map of published formal rules, not a claim that every rule is followed in practice.

Jatiya Sangsad
The current 350-member Parliament comprises 300 directly elected constituency members and 50 reserved seats for women elected within Parliament under the constitutional system.
President of Bangladesh
Parliament elects the President, who normally acts on Prime Ministerial advice but retains the Constitution's specified appointment roles.
Bangladesh Election Commission
The constitutional commission prepares electoral rolls and conducts presidential and parliamentary elections independently in the exercise of its functions.
Prime Minister
The President appoints the member of Parliament who appears to command majority support; the Prime Minister heads the Cabinet and the executive Government.
Cabinet
The Prime Minister heads the Cabinet, which exercises executive authority and is collectively responsible to Parliament.
Supreme Court of Bangladesh
The Appellate and High Court Divisions exercise the Supreme Court's jurisdiction; the High Court enforces fundamental rights and reviews public-authority action.
