Independent means outside the campaign.

The FEC defines these expenditures as expressly advocating the election or defeat of a clearly identified candidate without coordination. They are not added to the candidate’s campaign receipts.

Positions are filer-reported.

“Support” and “oppose” reproduce the spender’s filing. Election.org does not infer intent from a committee name, party, payee, or dollar amount.

Amendments are normalized.

Rows from superseded filings are removed through the FEC previous-filing chain so amended versions are not silently double-counted.
