Why these records belong together
Federal terms join only on the corpus person_id; state roles join only on the Open States person UUID. FEC campaign records connect only through an exact FEC candidate ID. Names alone never merge people.

Current state role snapshot
The state layer uses the current Open States People roster and retains absent earlier identities with their original source dates. A roster absence does not establish a departure date, vacancy or complete state-legislative career history.
Connection is not causation—or judgment.
A term, campaign filing, vote, election result, disclosure, or stock transaction proves only what its cited source reports. Campaign contributions do not establish why a vote was cast; a securities transaction is not evidence of wrongdoing, intent, profit, or a conflict of interest.
