Two steps before ballot qualification.
Declaration of Intention
Complete the City Clerk's Declaration of Intention to Become a Candidate. The last published day to withdraw the declaration was February 7.
Nominating Petition
Obtain and file City Clerk petition forms. Every petition section had to be filed together; circulators had to be at least 18.

Is it still possible to file for the 2026 Los Angeles municipal election?
The City Clerk's published 2026 candidate guide set March 4, 2026 as the last day to obtain and file nominating petitions. That published filing window has closed.
How many signatures were required in 2026?
The guide published two alternatives for every office: pay a non-refundable $300 filing fee and file at least 500 valid signatures, or pay no filing fee and file at least 1,000 valid signatures.
Does this page decide whether I am legally eligible?
No. It normalizes the City Clerk's cycle-specific publication. Personal eligibility, disqualifications, valid signatures, complete filings, and ballot qualification must be determined by the responsible officials under current law.
